The Lethal Injection Information Center advises pharmaceutical companies on strategies to prevent the misuse of their medicines in executions in the United States. We have been doing this work for 15+ years.
The Lethal Injection Information Center is a pro bono consultancy that advises pharmaceutical companies on strategies to prevent the misuse of their medicines in executions in the United States. We have been in operation for 15+ years, and our advice is always provided free of charge.
Our role is practical. We support companies to put effective controls in place — and to keep those controls working — and we keep them informed of developments in the landscape as they happen, from changes in state protocols and procurement practices to litigation and legislation that may affect their medicines.
We provide expert pro bono advice and consultation to more than 100 healthcare companies, as well as relevant stakeholders and investors, to help them prevent their life-saving drugs from being used in executions. That work spans manufacturers, wholesalers, distributors and compounders, as well as the investors and industry bodies whose decisions shape how medicines move through the supply chain.
Medicines used in lethal injection were developed to save and improve patients’ lives, and the companies that make them have consistently said they do not want them diverted for use in executions (see Industry statements). We have also served as expert advisor to the United Kingdom and the European Union on export controls.
